White Chocolate Hills

Zamboanguita · Negros Oriental

Where the hills meet the sea

A boutique dive resort on the quiet southern coast of Negros Oriental. White dome bungalows with chocolate-brown roofs, gardens shaped after the Chocolate Hills of Bohol, and the marine sanctuary of Apo Island a boat ride away.

A paradise shaped by hand

It began with a trip to Bohol. The owners stood before the Chocolate Hills — those strange, beautiful mounds that turn cocoa-brown in the dry season — and fell for them completely. Why not build a quiet paradise around the hills they loved? In 2011 the first stone was laid in Zamboanguita; by 2014 the mini Chocolate Hills had taken root, and a final phase of bungalows and a second, Pirate-themed bar followed in 2016.

The bungalows borrow from both modern and native design: dome-shaped, with chocolate-brown roofs that echo the hills in summer, and interiors lined with intricate stonework finished entirely by hand. White, brown, green and blue run through everything — the colours of the Philippines itself — clean, calm and easy on the eye.

We keep things quiet here. Peaceful, unhurried, the way a holiday should feel, so the luxury you notice most is the time to do nothing at all.

A bungalow for every kind of stay

Each dome bungalow stands in its own corner of the gardens, finished by hand in white walls and warm stone, with a private terrace and breakfast on the house — five bungalows in all, from ₱2,655 a night.

Every room includes breakfast, a welcome drink, beach towels, a bottle of water per person each day, free WiFi, air-conditioning, a minibar (pay as you consume), cable TV, a kettle with free coffee and tea, an in-room safe and a hand-laid stone bathroom with hot and cold water. Children aged 0–6 stay free in existing beds.

And then, the Villa Deluxe

One hundred and sixty square metres beside the pool: three split-type air-conditioners, four queen beds and four singles, two private bathrooms and a terrace with a pool view. Room for ten, and up to twenty — the grandest way to bring everyone together.

The sea is the reason

White Chocolate Hills is a dive resort at heart. Coral Dive & Adventure sits on site, the house reef begins a few fin-kicks out, and the marine sanctuary of Apo Island — green turtles, walls and clouds of fish — is a short boat ride south. For non-divers there is snorkelling, and the muck-diving coast of Dauin is just up the road.

Grown here, cooked with care

Our kitchen is homemade in the truest sense: a wide menu of Asian and Western dishes, a traditional Italian pizza oven, and fruit and vegetables raised in the resort's own gardens. Breakfast comes with every room; the rest of the day drifts between the open-air restaurant, the coconut-shaded terrace and a cocktail at the stone-built bar.

Light on the land

We believe a holiday can be kind to the place that hosts it. Solar panels gather the Negros sun, an aquaponics system raises fish and greens together, and much of what reaches your plate is grown a few steps from the kitchen. Less waste, more flavour, and a resort that gives back to the island it sits on.
